Dear Parents, As a loving and caring parent of my own children, I want to share the values and benefits of reading aloud to your children. Reading aloud to my kids has not only established a closer, more affectionate bond between us but has also allowed my children to actually LIKE books. In this time and age, the TV and video games are the only things kids do for entertainment. Characters in the media aren’t always the best role models and often send the wrong messages to our kids. At one time or another you’ve probably seen your kid say or do something that they’ve seen in a video game or movie that you didn’t approve of. KIDS NEED SOMETHING ELSE. They need a positive learning experience with literature. They need to develop listening and comprehension skills that will help them be successful and well rounded later in life. Make reading to your child a routine and I promise you that you won’t regret it now or later! I know first hand from my children that it calms them down and creates bonding time between us.
